To us, Social Purpose Real Estate means reinventing development in our neighborhoods and communities. In the summer of 2017 Lee Herrin, Director at Scale Collaborative talked about the transformative power of revenue diversification as a part of TedX at Royal Roads University.

As a part of TedX, he shared stories about his work as Executive Director of Fernwood Neighbourhood Resource Group Society.

In the video attached, there is a short history of Fernwood NRG’s foray into real estate as both an enterprising organizational strategy but also as a way to repair the bonds of community. In the video, Lee Herrin talks about the reinvention of development in the Fernwood neighborhood.

The video was shot in the summer of 2017. It was completed in the fall of 2018, and true to our model, a social enterprise was incorporated into the main floor of the building—also purchased the Fernwood Yoga Den in the summer of 2018 and through an agreement with the previous owner, who has stayed on as the Studio Director, she is transforming it into a powerful social enterprise and community-building organization.
